Pre-production moodboard

pre-production sketches

These are my first ideas for my music magazine. I designed a masthead and a name. I put my masthead on the image I decided to use, but I thought it looked a bit boring so I tried to replace the text with image in a few different ways and this was my result.
This is at the moment the only photo shoot I like for my magazine.

CD cover analysis

I think my CD cover is very suitable to be a Pop album, because it is all very pink and femenine. The font is thin, and the songs are love songs. I think the front cover image looks good, but I'm not very convinced about the back cover. I'm also not very happy with the name of the artist, it isn't very original, but it works for the genre it is meant to be. The most difficult part of the project for me was thinking about the design and names. I have learnt how to edit photos on photoshop, and also how to analyse different CD covers, and what elements let you know what genre the CD is.
If I had all the money in the world I would use beter images with a proper model, and I would probably use better photoshop techniques.

This album can be compared to other pop CD covers such as Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj or Britney Spears.
This is a Britney Spears album, She does pop music, and the main colour in her front cover is pink. I think it is a bit similar to my album because it has got the singer on the cover and it uses a feminine font. The name of the album makes you think it contains love songs.

Again, the main colour is pink. The album contains the word 'pink', like my album. The artist is on the front cover and the font is very thin and feminine.

This album is quite simple. It is just a photo of the singer with her name and the name of her album in the top left corner. There is a few different colours in this photo, but the one that actually stands out is pink. I think all the pop albums are pretty much the same: they all have the photo of the artist on the cover, they all use pink and the font is serif and thin, very feminine.

Mood Board

This is my mood board. It is for pop music, so I have chosen a few images of things that I think people that like this music are interested in, with very particular colours: pink and red. I think it is quite obvious what type  of music this mood board is for.

Issu.com Magazines i like.

http://issuu.com/reallygreatmagazine/docs/reallygreatmagazinespring2012

I like this magazine because of the design. It is very colourful, but you can see by the front cover it's a magazine for girls. I would like to borrow a few things of the design, like using black and white images mixed with colour writing. I like the font that is used, and the simplicity of the design.

http://issuu.com/beckss07/docs/contents_page

I like the design of the page, the font and i also like the idea of interviewing people. I think this is a good design because it isn't too complicated but it looks very good. I think this magazine is for teenagers, you can see that by the pictures, font and design of the page.

http://issuu.com/patternindy/docs/pattern_issue_1

I like this magazine because there are a lot of fashion shots. There are all different type of styles, for men and for women. I would like to use some fashion shots for my magazine too. It is a magazine that teenage girls would be interested in because it tells you all about fashion.

http://issuu.com/66mag/docs/66mag

I like the design of the pages, the way the elements are displayed. This magazine is a bit like the last one, it is all about fashion, with a lot of fashion shots, with models, celebrities, etc.

http://issuu.com/papercutmag/docs/papercutmag_november_2011

I like this image because it has fashion images too, they are very interesting photos. You can see all this just by looking at the front cover. I could use some ideas from the photos in this  magazine. The fashion used in this magazine is completely different to the last ones, because they use pictures of weird outfits, not clothing that someone would usually wear to go out.

Album Covers

This album works because it's pop and it has a female font. It's very bright and it also uses pink, a female colour. It has a photograpgh of the singer on the front cover, this is also a characteristic of pop albums. Her hair style and decoration suggest te type of music this  could be.

This album cover works because the fist shows strength and anger. This music is heavy metal. It's strong and loud music with a lot of fury, so this fist represents this type of music. It uses bright colours to attract peoples attention. The focal point is the fist. The orange pattern that is around the fist looks like a repercussion of sound. You can tell by the name of the band and the font that this music is heavy metal.

This cover is for a heavy metal album. You can see this straight away, just by looking at the font that is used or at the picture on the cover. It's a mysterious picture, you cant actually see what they're doing, but it is all very dark. The people or skeletons are dressed in long, dark and a bit destroyed  robes. The sky looks interesting, it's the only colourful thing in the picture, so it attracts the attention straight to the name of the band. The title of the album is also surrounded by a bit of colour.

This album cover from The Rolling Stones is Rock & Roll music. You can see this by the clothes on the cover, tight jeans with a belt. The colour and lighting in this photo are also important. The name of the band and the album is the only colourful element on the cover, written in red letters in a box. The names look like stamps.

On this cover you can see straight away the type of music the album contains. It's a black and white photo with a man next to an old car. This man is obviously a raper, by the clothes he's wearing (wide jacket and tracksuit trousers). The car helps to guess what kind of music this CD might contain too. He uses a different type of font for the title of the album and the name of the artist, but both of them are appropriate for this genre.
